Welcome to THE WALL OF TUNES blog!

I’m Forrest: family man-child, amateur writer, lapsed artist, nature admirer, picture show scrutinizer, baseball nerd, superhero nostalgist, dilettante drummer, obsessive-compulsive devourer of recorded auditory stimuli, and your verbose host to all proceedings herein.

Welcome
Self Portrait (2000)
by Forrest G Boughner

In college, friends jokingly(?) likened me to John Cusak in High Fidelity because, well, I’m really angsty and I like to talk about music – a LOT. To that end, THE WALL OF TUNES, dives deep into my subjective experiences with music and media – expanding upon the mix of information, analyses, and reminiscence I post on Facebook, but with more detail, better quality control, and fewer colorful metaphors (smile).

Is yet another nerdy, glorified journaling project what the world needs right now? …With all the sociopolitical…horribleness that’s going on…? I don’t know. But the response – however limited in number my test-group may admittedly be – has been so positive… And I’m having so much fun revisiting these memories and researching my subjects… Why not? Undoubtedly, not everyone’ll relate to what the WALL has to offer, but if I can ignite the smallest spark of joy in those who do, that’s good enough for me.

So. What to expect…

First and foremost, I’m here to celebrate my favorite music, not post hit pieces dumping on anything that doesn’t neatly fit that bill. That’s not to say I won’t slip in the occasional light-hearted snark, of course… But you’ll not find any insidious, cynically engineered rage-baiting here. Besides, I’ve had my mind changed enough times to know that anything I call crap out of hand today could very well grow to be a favorite ten years from now.

And what are my favorite things? Well, I was born in the early ’70s… So be prepared for lots of geeking-out over the music and media Gens X and (early) Millenials grew up with. So, basically, the entire history of entertainment in the 20th century. But, also, in line with my borderline pathological craving for thrill of the new, I’ll be writing about artists and media that’ve been on my radar since Y2K.

But wait! There’s more!

There will playlists! Epic, sprawling, glorious playlists! Sometimes curated to compliment blog articles; sometimes crafted with input from the SON OF THE WALL OF TUNES Facebook group; sometimes tossed together for the pure fun of it; all lovingly designed to take listeners on an extended, rewarding sonic journey.

Alrighty then.

Watch out for easter eggs! External links to supplemental material and videos are nested everywhere in the highlighted text throughout the site.

Enjoy!
